Data Residency for AI Agents: The Practical Enterprise Checklist
AI data residency is not just where prompts are stored. It covers retrieval, logs, traces, tool calls, and model routing.

Prompts are only one data surface
Agents also retrieve documents, call tools, write logs, emit traces, and route across providers.
If any surface leaves an allowed geography, the policy may still be violated.
The checklist enterprises actually need
Cover inputs, retrieval indexes, inference region, caches, logs, tool execution, backups, and subprocessors.
A regional endpoint is not enough if support access moves data elsewhere.
Make residency provable
Every run should record region, model route, storage policy, retention class, and external destinations.
For global enterprises, residency is a runtime policy, not a one-time architecture choice.
